The grackle is not very likeable with its annoying cry and the habit of pilfering the eggs of more pleasant songbirds. This sculputre attracts the viewer with the beautiful iridescent blue, feathered head and intimidating size.

This sculpture is inspired by the Gypsy Moth, a pest known for destroying whole forests. The night sky tiles on the wings allude to "Night Butterfly" the name for moth in several languages. Eradication of these types of pests with man-made chemicals should be re-evaluated.
